If you are uncomfortable with schmoozing, you may never qualify for promotions. I have a co-worker who has applied for 15 positions and counting. She was well qualified for each but refused to brown nose. Most of the time my department sounds like a frat house---and this is senior management. It is so embarrassing when irate members on the phone hear the on-going party atmosphere.
