Vantaggi
Great people. You will make some friends and work with some smart people. Casual environment with nice facilities. You'll avoid some of the pains of a "traditional" office. Some departments are good about work/life balance. PTO plan is pretty good. Sabbatical program is awesome if you're there long enough.

Pay is well under market. Many in management are unqualified for the positions they hold. Aging tech with resistance to change. Prefer to solve problems by throwing cheap labor at them rather than investing in the right solution. Most of the flashy culture stuff is just used to attract cheap college grads. Constantly in some state of reorganization. A few lowlights: Overtime pay. Years ago when they'd recruit they would lowball you with an hourly offer but say most people work 45 hours and can make more money that way. A little suspect, but still a way to put money in your pocket. In the last few years they have gone through multiple cycles of cutting overtime completely before turning around and making it mandatory. Most recently they pushed a bunch of people to salary to cut this out completely. This was essentially a pay cut for any of those 45 hour people. The most laughable moment since I started was around the "best places to work" surveys. HR undertook an effort to poll the company and ask how Hyland could improve their rankings. The overwhelming answer was to improve parental leave. Hyland offers what is required by law (which, in fairness, is true for many area companies). HR said they would act on this since it was clearly important to Hyland employees which was encouraging. Their big reveal was to allow mothers to take short term disability while on maternity leave. The CEO then got in front of the the entire company and stated he didn't believe in paying people for not working which is why that was all that was being offered. Quite the slap in the face and evidence that a lot of the culture stuff is for show. All in all it's still not a bad place to work and it's better than a lot of places, just understand what you're getting. There are some very common themes in these reviews and HR/management is well aware they're just not concerned.
