As I reflect on my time at Impact Group, I am filled with mixed emotions. There were a lot of great people that worked for Impact Group across many departments. My coworkers were all very supportive, and a few of the leadership team really did care. The flexibility and work-life balance, in combination with the friendships I made, were the most significant pros. Professionally I did learn and grow.

Impact Group struggled over the years to focus on what was essential to the business. There was way too much tension between departments to make any real progress in advancing the business. Honest communication and trust were the biggest problems. Leadership team members were concerned about “saving” themselves rather than admitting things weren't working and needed a new approach. They failed to utilize the talent they had on the team effectively. They did not learn from past mistakes, which lead to multiple layoffs. The layoffs always caused a lot of anxiety for the whole team and eroded any trust or loyalty to the business. Coworkers would work hard for each other, but there was no real sense of company loyalty because the leadership had eroded trust. Everyone started to just look out for themselves. Impact Group sells Leadership Development and Outplacement services, but they failed to use that knowledge to grow their business. While I was there, the company had multiple presidents and continually shifting priorities, giving most of us a feeling of whiplash as we shifted and re-evaluate the same business processes and explained the same areas of weakness. Each time there was hope the new leadership direction would have a meaningful impact, but each time the new initiatives failed to be effectively implemented. As a result, business suffered. The sales team shifted focus at the direction of leadership so many times. They could not focus on what they knew was right for the clients or what was running successfully because they were always putting out fires or chasing a new idea set by leadership. New ideas are great when the idea is focused on the client and what the client is asking for. It was disappointing to work hard and see the company struggle to gain positive traction. The pay wasn't great, and while I worked there, they stopped the retirement account % match. If the company continues to underperform or grow, I would guess that the employee salary and benefits will continue to be below the market average.

I enjoy the work itself supporting individuals and families in transition with career and relocation coaching and support. Having worked at IG for several years, I continue to be impressed with the skills and talents that coaches and employees have but also the engagement and commitment to the work that we do. Like all companies there are people who come and go but overall I have been impressed with the longevity of many of the account managers, coaches, and senior leaders. Over the years I have seen many people come back as well. It's nice that when people take a new opportunity they go with good wishes and sometimes come back a few years later if new opportunities arise. I appreciate that even when working remotely and part time you can get to know others through All Hand's calls, and coaching trainings and meetings. Over the years I have also enjoyed being able to work on projects aimed to improve our service and delivery. Perhaps what I like the best is that the company and leadership team are always open to new ideas. Not all can be implemented or be implemented immediately but many are and this allows us to constantly be staying on top of the needs of the people we work with. We even have opportunities to meet in small groups with the CEO from time to time and this is always refreshing to hear directly from her but also to learn from others in the room from different divisions.

For me there are not a lot. We do have to provide our own computer and equipment which as a part time coach I understand. It would be great to have an annual allowance that we could use to offset some of the expenses such as a paid AI service or Adobe for example that some people take on to make work more efficient.
