Perhaps my situation was not typical but the team and related teams were full of people who were bright, kind, and always eager to learn more. Overall pressure was not high, even in high pressure situations everyone supported each other.

Company policy seems to be built based on "what can we get away with without making it too obvious?" Pay increases were nonexistent or very stingy. Even the "cost of living" increase in 2022 was months late while employees were strung along the entire time. When it did happen, it was similar to a simple merit increase in a typical year at other companies. The travel cost reimbursement system closely resembles mail-in rebate scams of the past with which getting paid back often takes multiple attempts and escalations. Even upon resignation, they will only pay out PTO in the handful of states which explicitly enforce it.
