Vantaggi
The merger with Exempla opened up many opportunities for promotion and growth within the organization. Since the merger, myself and others have experienced promotions that recognize our skill level and time of tenure with the organization. The organization provides good challenges to tackle as undocumented or poorly documented processes are brought to light, audited, and updated. PTO accrual is relatively generous, and work-life balance is good.
Svantaggi
There are many silos at the organization; too many times, the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing. It took many years for my compensation to even approach market value, although my pay rate is now (as of 2015), fair for my level of experience, education, and tenure at the organization. Benefits have continually gone downhill each year, though management claims they are improving benefits. Like many organizations, there is an increasingly high amount of red tape required merely to do your job. Managers at the organization, in general, do not seem to have a clear vision for the future, and instead spend a lot of time on "fighting fires" to cover for poorly implemented systems and processes. Significant overhaul (or even re-implementation) is needed for many of the critical systems at the organization but management does not seem to favor such deep changes. Often, there are many projects being worked on in parallel with little idea of the impacts to existing systems and to other projects. The organization is somewhat top heavy, with a large number of supervisors, managers, directors, and executives.
