HORRIBLE WORK ENVIRONMENT. Toxic Administration. Dysfunctional culture. Both terms were not coined by me - I heard these statements repeatedly from all over campus while part of the Rhodes State workplace. Treatment by top leadership is beyond horrific. I was told by a VP early in my Rhodes State career that we worked in within an abusive relationship - that put it MILDLY. If you have a leadership role, expect to be treated badly. Extremely high turnover (most new hires stay just over a year) creates a tremendous number of openings, which means most people are filling at least 2+ roles because it's takes so long for positions to be filled (if they ever get filled). Most people leave because of the horrible work environment - don't listen to top leadership when they tell you about openings due to retirement because it's not the reality. No decisions are made without the approval of top leadership. Most decisions are finally made at the last possible moment, creating tremendous stress to execute results quickly and effectively. Many employees are new, leading to a tremendous lack of continuity. Performance expectations are overwhelming. If you are in leadership, expect to be on campus 10+ hours a day during the week, with "off-hours" spent trying to keep up with emails and project needs. NO COMP TIME for weekend or late-evening events. Colleagues will smile in public and stab others in the back in private - it's the expectation. Top leadership feeds on negativity. Most employees exist in a state of just trying to survive. Benefits are basic: very high deductible coverage. If you work here for long, you'll probably experience stress-related consequences. It's not worth your health to endure the treatment you will receive here - RUN RUN RUN!
