Editorial Intern - Recensione dipendente - Editorial Intern presso June Media

June Media's apparently been going through a major transition from a sleepy website and marketing company to something bigger and better. I came in during this transition, so one of the great "pros" was seeing the changes from the inside out. I worked in Chicago, so I'm mostly commenting about the experience in that office (not NYC). The content editors in Chicago and the senior management in NYC can seem a bit hard driving at times, but by the end I thought that they really cared and were focused on taking the steps to create a great media company. As an intern, I also thought that my work could have an immediate and real impact.

The company has high expectations for interns (and editors), so a role at this company may not be for some people who just want to check a box on their resume. I was told that these higher expectations came in with the new CEO this year, who apparently started cleaning house when he took over (which might explain a couple of the other company reviews!). Never met the guy but I believe that the editors thought he was smart and very aggressive. Still, if you have high expectations for yourself and want to do real work, this is a great assignment. Not sure that interns are really considered for jobs at June Media, but a couple of the editors said that they might be open to considering it in the future. I think that would be a really positive development.
