Much of the staff is friendly and hard-working, despite the obstacles that the company keeps putting in our way. The staff is generally given the tools (if not the manpower or the time necessary) to get the job done.

The CEO's plans for "revitalizing" the company make no sense whatsoever from a retail perspective. The amount and variety of merchandise we have is decreasing while prices tend to increase. Payroll is cut back to such an extent that full-time employees are working below their minimum limit, part-time employees are lucky to get any hours at all, and the amount of staff on duty at any given time is absolutely minimal. Not only does that mean each employee must do far more work in less time, but it also means that customers are facing extraordinarily long wait times, assuming they don't walk out in disgust first. There's just as much work to do as before, but with far fewer people actually doing the work, the amount of incomplete tasks continues to pile up. Even simple tasks such as straightening up the store get neglected because the few employees that are on duty are overwhelmed helping the customers. Corporate headquarters has a "no excuses" policy when it comes to assignments, regardless of the in-store conditions they create, and this puts enormous pressure on store management to get the job done no matter what. Unfortunately, this usually means the store management doesn't care why things aren't getting done; they simply blame each employee for laziness and incompetence while threatening to replace experienced and hard-working employees with new hires who, supposedly, can manage to get the job done. Morale is in the toilet. The future of each store and the company as a whole is in so much doubt that none of us have any sense of job security. It's impossible to live off of Kmart's paychecks because payroll is so low, it's a job where you start at minimum wage and end at minimum wage, hours on the schedule are hard to come by, and being faced with the sheer amount of work that one person is supposed to do alone, while even just a few years ago a whole team would have been working on it, is beyond overwhelming. I arrive at work already stressed in anticipation of what I'm going to have to encounter, my stress level climbs steadily higher as I'm working (and being told I'm "lazy" because I'm not able to do the work of four or five people simultaneously), and by the time I go home I'm so stressed it's next to impossible to actually enjoy my life. It seems like there's a hole that can't be plugged and it's time to abandon ship.
