Vantaggi
The benefits are good. You have many options to choose from, although it is a little more expensive. They do performance reviews and you able to get a raise every year based on your performance. The pay is competitive but depends on what your tenure is.
Svantaggi
I worked for Ascension and they sold us to Labcorp. I love how the CEO of Labcorp said we have a lot in common, but the only thing we have in common is that we all do lab work. Labcorp is a reference lab so they cater to a completely different demographic of patients. Hospital labs are for people that need results now, not 3-5 days from now. They are 2 completely different entities. The crossover to Labcorp was rough. People have left this hospital because of it. Also, hospital labs are 24/7 whereas Labcorp is a Mon-Fri lab. So we had issues with getting the extra pay for working weekends. The referral department is a mess. When we have crazy tests that the doctors order and have to be sent out, their send out menu is atrocious. We never know if we are sending it to the right facility and the Labcorp results don't always cross over into the Hospital system. So we are getting calls from doctors wondering where their results are. Since Labcorp is a for profit organization, if we have a tech leave, their spot isn't open right away to hire on for that position. We have to prove that we need that position filled to show that it is needed. So if we have a night shift leave (and we only have 2 night shifters), we have to PROVE we need that position filled by having all the rest of the employees doing overtime and getting burnt out. Labcorp is not meant to be in a hospital system. They are a reference lab and should stay as just a reference lab system. It's been a mess to get the CEO and higher ups to understand that we are 2 different entities and that we don't run as a reference lab. We need staffing to provide care for patients that need their results now.
