Vantaggi
Paid on time. Lessons are easy to teach. I’d reckon recommended working here if you’re a student or need a bit of extra pocket money. It’s not a proper job.
Svantaggi
There are not enough students to go around. If you tell the company you can work 8 hours on a Monday for example, you may only be given an hour to teach so it’s very much a part-time job. It is busy on Saturday and Sunday though. You can’t rely on them for a decent, regular income. They don’t like you to be honest with students. If a student has performed poorly or not prepared, you are encouraged to pretend the student has done a ‘great job’, just to keep the student happy. I thought that adults would prefer honesty, it appears they don’t in China!!! I was criticized a few times for giving honest, constructive feedback. Sometimes the quality of the connection is poor, even though your internet is fine, their servers are not very good. Although they’ve tried to make improvements, there are still problems on a weekly basis. The pay is also low. If you live in a low income country such as China, you’ll be fine. If you live in a developed country, the salary will not be high enough to live a decent life (if you are relying solely on the Liulishuo salary). Your lessons are monitored infrequently. They try to give you feedback but the feedback they give is often poor and not constructive. I’m a fairly qualified teacher and felt that the feedback I was given was from unqualified teachers and it never helped me to improve my teaching. The listening activities for the lesson and the lesson notes have frequent grammatical mistakes. The speakers in the listening activities speak with funny accents that are nothing like a native speaker. There are numerous mistakes in these. This looks unprofessional when you have to explain these mistakes.
