Upper management and CEO were mostly bankers from big banks, and brought the culture to this start-up setting. Bureaucracy, seniors with high ego, banking culture and very risk averse. When I came in, they were so reluctant to even pay for a canva pro lol… how were we supposed to do the job properly. A lot of overqualified seniors who joined just because they hated banks, only to do very menial stuff and in return, quite unfulfilled. You can feel their negativity in the office because of that. Employees only do things that they think the CEO may accept, instead of being empowered to make decisions. Lots of office politics and pretty much no proper onboarding system. I’ve seen people being nasty.

leadership could be a problem. employees delivered their work but is only treated as doing their job with no bonus. no appreciation whatsoever. no surprise if employees lack motivation.

Once you become accustomed to the culture, it is a delightful place to work. The technology is not the most cutting edge, but one advantage is you have ample time and opportunity to explore them and expand your technical knowledge. There is also ample opportunity to connect and chill with your colleagues and enjoy a flexible work environment.

The employees find the management is inconsistent. While they want us to work hard, there is a lack of a robust strategic plan to bring us towards IPO. More attention is spent on cosmetic activities such as creating more processes and more structure which indirectly lead to more red tape, introducing sleek family company values, adding SIA business class seats and coffee bar counter, going for overseas management offsite, and even planning to build a new office and more.
