Vantaggi
Salary (this depends on the role you are in, but for me, I received a $27K increase from my role in higher Ed outside MA), management support (this also depends on who your manager is, but I am very happy with my direct supervisor. You cannot expect that every single manager in the institution is perfect. MIT does offer a lot of training for managers), autonomy (MIT is decentralized so DLC's have a lot of control over their processes- this is however also a con), benefits (their RX benefit is not as good as other places {get your RX's from MIT medical}, but overall their health insurance and other health benefits are great! Great commuter benefits as well)
Svantaggi
MIT is decentralized (this is also a pro, however also a con- DLC's can operate in silos because they have minimal /limited direction from central HR/finance. As a new employee, I have found it it very challenging to get up to speed on MIT policies and procedures, and I am very proactive. I can imagine this is a seemingly impossible task for people who are less proactive and who have a manager who is not as engaging), MIT has A LOT of long standing employees. Many people have told me that MIT is a big family. Many think this is a good thing, however I interpreted it as a potentially bad thing. 'What is they don't accept me into their family?'
