Vantaggi
Working with the public to make them happy buying affordable clothing, cosmetics, fragrances, textiles, kitchenwares and furniture. "Empowered" to do whatever it takes (within reason) to make customers feel the "magic" of Macy's without the fear of being corrected by a supervisor or manager. Opportunity to work as hard or as little as one wishes. Flexible work hours and easy-to-use scheduling system. Weekly paychecks.
Svantaggi
Awful pay, poor on-the-job training, elitist class attitude of management over non-management employees, sales associates only evaluated and functionally appreciated for meeting sales goals and opening Macy's Rewards accounts. Phony, childish, intelligence insulting "rewards" and "incentives" to create the illusion of a happy workplace. Management methods very old fashioned. Sales and support staff viewed by management as an underclass that needs to be pacified but not respected for intelligence. Management rarely "on the floor" to support customer needs. The company has cut back on the number of sales and support employees, thus customers often find themselves on the sales floor with no associates to help them or too many customers for the number of available associates. Good ideas and consistent effort not rewarded with increased number of work hours or increased pay. Weak employees permitted to remain on staff and not given reduced work hours. Management is not objective and (like most companies) play favorites with employees. Punitive action taken for not taking required lunch breaks within five hours of start time but not given sales support when there is high customer demand and no other sales associates to cover the floor while one goes on the required lunch break in a timely manner. Managers rarely step in to help sales associates on the sales floor. Very few full-time positions.
