As others have said, if you get in with the inner circle you are rewarded with complete freedom.

Unfortunately most of the “inner circle” in upper management is grossly unfit for their roles and were either put in place by the absentee owner or because they were the last one standing in their department during high turnover times. This lead to a “culture” of insecurity, backstabbing, and toxicity among “leadership” that trickled down to those beneath them. Leadership changes direction as much as you change socks, lots of turnover, zero accountability, and a completely absent human resources department clueless on how to change any of it. If you’re serious about your career you will steer clear and pick an organization that has a future.
