As is the case with every corporation, your experience depends on your manager. In "the old days," a fair amount of effort was put into performance evaluations, and part of that assessment was a "360 degree evaluation." People all around you were asked to briefly describe their experience with you. That type of evaluation has disappeared, and trying to get the word out about a bad manager is a lengthy and largely ineffective process.
