Pay is a joke, starting at $9.25 for most people while Wal-mart and Target now start at $11 and Wal-mart is going to $12. Meijer starting pay is still at least $2-3 below everyone else including Wal-mart. It took me over 15 years to get to what I started out at when I went to Wal-mart. Meijer also took away incentive pay without giving us any raise in pay, just increased topout which keeps your current pay rate the same. They talk about "investing in you" and "win with the team" all the time but every time they do something to the pay it felt like a slap in the face to the "team" that has worked at Meijer for years. A lot of the Meijer bosses act like they are God and refuse to hear input from their workers but when something goes wrong is quick to throw them under the bus for "not bringing this problem to our attention." Feels like you're going to be fired every day you go in. They cut your hours to the bone, then they write you up for "work performance" when you don't get 8 hours of work done in the 5 hour shift they cut you to. Which goes back to a lot of Meijer bosses act like they are God and write you up just because they can. Short staffed everywhere in the store. They just sent an email out to our bosses telling them to attend a meeting on how to schedule correctly. Problem is, the bosses know how to schedule, they just don't get the right amount of hours from corporate or they purposely schedule under hours so they can get bonuses. Mean while, the "team" that has to deal first hand with being short staffed just got our bonuses taken away. So much for "win with your team!" You can tell the corporate people run everything based on some numbers on a spread sheet but they don't seem to care about what a number on a spread sheet does to real people in the stores.

Direct coworkers were great to work with. I also enjoyed being left to do my work and not babysat by management.

Management doesn't know what they are doing. Resets and floor plans were regularly not done properly. The store I worked at has a skeleton crew so I never got help (but was expected to stop everything I'm going to go help other departments/areas). Also meaning good luck to any customers needing help, especially when I was the only person working my area of the store, so when I wasn't there, no one was. Management also regularly disappeared into the offices or were on vacation. Also was terminated for reasons outside my control even though I was told they look at the reasons for attendance incidents before termination. Never got to get the FMLA or accommodation to my doctors before being terminated two days after I requested them. Didn't bother asking for a raise either. I did multiple times and got nothing.
