Non-profits can be wild places to work, but I think the current Executive Director really does want this to be a place where staff and students are heard and want to be. It seems that now is the best iteration of Meristem it has been in a while. My more administrative role has a flexible schedule, which helps with my productivity. Lots of hard-working and supportive colleagues. Very open to suggestions if you are willing to take ownership of the solution. There is a big focus on improving your own personal growth and emotional maturity to better support the young adults the program serves. Lots of opportunities to be outside, interact with the students, and explore crafts/trades by getting to know your coworkers. Small team feeling - which can be very supportive.

-Small team (looser structures, fewer opportunities for advancement than a larger organization) -Fewer holidays and less vacation time than other industries where I've worked -Program is adapted from Rudolf Steiner/anthroposophy, which is more spiritual in nature than most other workplaces and risks of bordering on pseudoscience. Terms used often don't correspond to plain language understanding and it takes time to learn what is meant.
