People with less than 1 year data science experience also get hired as senior data scientists and people with 3-4 years experience are also hired as senior data scientists. People with 1.5 years experience in data science get hired as engineer data scientists. The noise you make with your linear regression model gets noticed more than your exploration of other methods to solve the problem. Basically you can make a simple install and run of module feel like innovation, just need to portray like that. Will update my views if I feel differently in the future.
