Vantaggi

The people at Monsoon were some of the nicest, hard working people you could hope to work with. Flexible hours, and a dog friendly policy made office work bearable.

Svantaggi

Upper management is a nightmare. The CEO hired fellow incompetents to be his yes-men, which led to the downward spiral that ended in the lay off over half of the company. The CEO knows next to nothing about the software that his company provides, and was incapable of providing any concrete plan for the future. Not only that, but he was outright dishonest about his employees receiving year-end bonuses, claiming that funds were being allocated, then 3 months later saying that the money was to come from a sale that never happened. So either he was allocating funds that he didn't have (not surprising), or he was lying directly to his employees. The dishonesty doesn't stop there however, on several occasions I had direct talks with people in upper management, and was assured X would happen, only to find out from others that that couldn't be further from the truth. The only upside is that most of these people jumped ship when the company started going downhill. All-in-all, it is a poorly run company in a downward spiral from which they may not recover.

Vantaggi

The people are great. They are smart and friendly and generally willing to help out when they can. The benefits are above average. Work schedule is flexible with regard to working from home when needed. You can have dogs in the office.

Svantaggi

Management has not demonstrated the ability to maintain focus on a single plan for the future. Much of the downward spiral that was the last two years I would attribute to the constant thrashing of priorities as everyone was changing focus to work on the "new" big thing. The end result was that nothing got accomplished and all of the products were left woefully behind the competition. Communication is not as transparent as it could be. In a company this small, it is critical to keep everyone in the loop of what is happening. This was not always the case. Often things were simply not shared. Other times only half truths were shared or data was misrepresented. No one is asking to be at the table with the executives. All the employees are looking for is open communication about the direction of the company and the plans for the future.
