Vantaggi

* Great people to work with (but exec) * Good Sallary * Autonomy to do pretty much anything you want

Svantaggi

* Worst executive I ever have worked for. The exec have syndom of Midas, they need to touch in literally everything to be approved, from team names to engineering decisions (and isn't only the CTO , random people from exec too). * Everything for yesterday. Basically here is literally everything for yesterday, and when this problem is raised the CEO replies "If it's for yesterday it is because should be done yesterday" so as you can see this culture come from the very top and isn't different when get to CTO, CFO, CPO or any other C on the executive. * Almost no Perks. We took years to get the healthy ensurance approved, and that's it, it's all we have so far and they don't show any interest on add or change anything. * They hire smart people to say to them what to do. Basically they don't care about your speciallity or if you want to improve their platform, they want you on the place they put you, otherwise you're not a good fit. * T-shirt comany. Business is so lost that CEO first says that they're platform company but when things get ugly they are basically a feature machine and start saying that they're a T-Shirt company, so, if you are a proactive person which like to improve things or prioritise tech things, forget.

Vantaggi

- Bare minimum of what you can expect from a startup nowadays.

Svantaggi

- bad salaries if you are not working in the european offices. Good luck trying to negotiate a raise, - as if an individual had power to negotiate a fair deal with a company - even if you are working twice as hard as when you were hired. Salary offers appear the be done according to the country you are working from and how management can be impressed - or fooled - by your pitch. Be prepared to find people in European offices making much more than you for the same work. C level will be saying that the company is very diverse and has workers from a variety of countries. I guess paying people living in places other than Lisbon and London less than their peers is an easy way of achieving that. - C level are not keen to answer concerns from employees. Those are met with the usual "go talk to your line manager", failing to realize people are not comfortable talking to their managers or do not think the manager can do anything about it, otherwise they would not be in need to take the problems to higher ranks. Maybe that would not be the case if they did not hire so many new people as managers, instead of promoting people that everybody already like, trust and respect. They do hold monthly meetings where anyone can ask questions, just not any type of questions. The questions have to be about the business, otherwise they will call it "escalation", get mad and - you know it - advise to talk to your manager, as said above. Probably because of that people feel discouraged to ask anything at all in those meetings. They used to hold anonymous Q & As in these monthly meetings, but even that was scratched out lately. If you are working there I recommend you post your anonymous reviews here, since they seem scared of answering in the meetings. - I cannot stress this enough, promotions and good payment raises are extremely rare if you are not working in the European offices - maybe even if you are, when talking about raises. C level are very eager to say they are hiring in social media, along with the usual humble bragging that they do on LinkedIn, - Marketers, right?! - but not so much to retain talents they already have. - No extra payment for extra work, as many have been experiencing lately with the new initiatives, even with the company growing exponentially year to year. This was mentioned in one of the monthly meetings. The last CTO, who - guess what - also left the company for something better, just dismissed it as unimportant. - To wrap it up, Moteefe is not different from any other company, where you are expected to work hard and keep you mouth shut, even if C level like to think they are. You will get tired eventually and seek for better paying jobs and opportunities elsewhere. You will rarely see an employee with 3 years or more working for the company, - unless it is a department manager or lost their will to do better already - as many leave and many get onboard every couple of months. C level will just dismiss that as unimportant anyway. Lastly, if steps are taken to correct these injustices while I'm still working there I will gladly delete this review and write a new positive one acknowledging the efforts to make it a better place to work.

Vantaggi

- Great team spirit in Lisbon - Great office location - Product has potential but there is huge lack of vision and strategy from the top management - Salary on the market range (lack of standard industry benefits like the health insurance)

Svantaggi

- Lack of autonomy and transparency - Lack of vision and strategy which leads to priorities constantly changing or the company tackling too many things at the same time (more than it has capacity to) - Lack of process - Top management constantly lies or hides information from his employees- Decisions are taken by top management without understanding the problem or involving the people that could provide input - Top management does not listen to people and does not care about his employees - Culture of speaking bad of people in the back instead of pushing for a proper feedback culture - wrong expectations are sold during interview which never match the reality (autonomy, transparency, re-architecture, health insurance) - hard to grow on a personal or professional level - the company business model relies on tech but there isn't a tech culture - Feature driven company instead of a product drive company(as advertised) - Crazy and unrealistic deadlines that come even before collecting input and estimation from the engineering team. This leads to adding more and more technical debt to an already fragile system. - engineering team does not have time to build well designed solutions - the system itself is not scalable and the engineering team does not get time to slowly start to a redesign or re-architecture.

To whom it may concern - thank you for your feedback, it really does matter to us as an organisation to take feedback onboard and help us to continue to build on the Moteefe success story. We will deal with your points in turn, as follows: Pros: It is really encouraging to hear more praise for the culture in the Lisbon office. Moteefe is a truly global company, but our Lisbon office is a key strategic location for us and it’s great to hear that the significant investment we are making in Lisbon is paying dividends. Moteefe has sold and delivered millions of print on demand items internationally to date, representing a great success, but we still have a way to go to achieve our mission of being the World’s leading Print on Demand business. We couldn’t have achieved this without our engineering team and the speed at which we deliver key functionality allowing us to get to market quickly. With regards to our benefits package, we are listening to the feedback in terms of industry standard expectations, but please do remember we are still a start-up and as such are understandably immature in some areas. We have health insurance starting on 1st May, which was explained at the company wide Town Hall 3 weeks ago. Other benefits include: Pension plan, free breakfast every day, snacks and drinks in the office, 1-day remote working as standard per week and flexi time. We are listening to the feedback and will continue to add more benefits in time that add value. Cons: A lack of transparency and other communication issues could have contributed to your expectations being mismanaged as a candidate or new joiner. Our CTO and people team have already altered the interview process entirely and are continuously optimising it to ensure messaging is on-point and reflective of key business focus. The re-architecture of our current platform is a good example of where expectation management could’ve been better. Our current platform has enabled Moteefe to be one of the fastest growing E-Commerce platforms in the world (https://www.deloitte.co.uk/fast50/winners/2019/index.html). Our platform is our past, present and future. As such we need to continuously evolve it into the well-engineered, robust, secure, stable and extensible platform that it needs to be. At the same time, we need to enable our commercial teams to react to market trends and opportunities in order to continue to be successful and deliver growth. The fruits of this success are being reinvested back into the platform. In summary we must balance customer needs and the commercial value of requirements with reducing tech debt and future improvements, which is always a challenge for any start-up that has grown quickly With regards to the lack of vision and strategy; We recognise an ongoing improvement opportunity to translate the company vision and goals into departmental goals, product backlogs, and initiatives. We are currently in the later stages of hiring a Head of Product who will be working closely with our existing team of Product Managers and Engineering teams to make this a reality. Advice to Management: “Start caring about people” this is the most concerning aspect of the feedback. Hopefully this response and the points below emphasise the fact we are listening and very much do care. Hopefully over the coming months we will see a marked improvement in all areas and you will feel differently. In place right now we have: - Exec team open door policy - Anonymous questions before every Town Hall Meeting, including feedback surveys afterwards - Actively hiring a Head of Product to help with Product vision, strategy and delivery - Two recently joined Software Engineering Managers who will be holding regular 1-2-1s - Actively hiring other senior engineering roles including Architects, Engineering Leads and QA Leads to help with re-architecture and other engineering workload - Confirmed roll out of Healthcare benefit on 1st May We are in the midst of a cultural and technical transformation journey. We really believe that in 6 months’ time we will be even further on than we are now. We have experienced huge growth in recent years and the foundation for our next phase of growth is getting stronger every day. We thank you for your feedback and hope you are as excited about our journey as we are.
