Vantaggi

You will feel a sense of job security. Layoffs are uncommon because the organization runs lean. If you have a competent and trustworthy manager, you will enjoy going to work. The culture is well-developed and generally positive. The 401K match is very generous, and you can carry over and cash out PTO if you manage it correctly. The Executive Team is very engaged and visible. The HR department is supportive and approachable.

Svantaggi

Because credit unions are not-for-profit, expect to earn 15-20% less than the for-profit sector, with wage increases at or just above inflation. Because the organization runs lean, additional FTE only gets budgeted when departments become overworked and understaffed. If you don't have a competent or trustworthy manager, you will probably not enjoy going to going to work. Absences are watched very closely, so even if a person has PTO available he/she may be penalized. It's very important to read and understand employee policies (which change periodically).

Vantaggi

Lots of opportunities - internal promotions are common. Strong sense of values and "why" we do what we do. People genuinely care about their work. Compensation has significantly improved in recent years. Excellent benefits package and unheard of 401k.

Svantaggi

No work from home. Some teams complain of work-life-balance challenges - not everywhere.

Vantaggi

Great benefits and pay for the area, steady hours

Svantaggi

CEO was absolutely too focused on keeping "culture" and "perception to the outside world" in his control. Dress code requirements, even for back office employees, has been harsh. They have an employee survey they require is filled out each year, but they never actually listen to the feedback. As well as the requirement to show up early to every meeting, otherwise you would be "late" in his eyes. Management is controlled under his thumb and there were many issues with my boss when I worked there. The time off policies are horrendous and make it impossible for work/life balance to happen. There is so much more, but I want to keep my anonymity. Now that Rick Hein has retired, OSCU might have a fighting chance.
