You get to work with struggling families and children.

There is no fairness or consistency. Starting with what they tell you, you will make hourly. They pay they advertise does not include 'drive time' and many times you will drive for 3 hours for a 2 hour visit, and you only get $9 for drive time. Next, they make you think you will be helping clients be successful. Like, you are going to help a family get housing and get a job and get their family back together. What really happens is that the local office manager is a foster parent herself and thinks she is saving families by getting children removed. The workers write documentation that the management 'approves' before it goes to the caseworkers...approving means 'editing' and changing your documentation entirely. Then they coach you to follow the edited documentation in court. There is no support from upper management at all. There is no one to call or talk to if you have a viable concern about your boss. There is not good moral or leadership No opportunity for advancement. Consistent last minute schedule changes.

This was a good job for me to gain experience right out of college. I was able to have one-on-one interaction with clients and work alone most of the time to implement different curriculum. There is a lot of demand for family support workers, so I was never at loss for hours. Mileage reimbursement added some nice money, depending on cases assigned.

It became frustrating when clients would cancel visits and you would not be compensated for any of that time. Instead you must make it up later that week or just take the pay cut. The supervisors were new at the time and were still in the process of figuring out how everything should work. This led to poor communication and disagreement between supervisors.
