Benefits are great. Pay is great once you get to commissioned pay levels. You’ll learn so much about dogs, behavior, health and so much more. This job is not for the impatient, as dogs can’t talk, so they act out physically and you MUST be patient and willing work work safely and efficiently. Know when to call it quits on an aggressive or distressed dog.

It’s hard to call out because you’re schedule can be booked out for days at a time and they make you feel bad for calling out. Also hard to balance this job with your personal life. Get ready for overtime. Some managers will harass you to hit your contribution goals and will not acknowledge your hard work otherwise. Sometimes you will get a large challenging dog scheduled in an appointment that does not allow enough time to provide a quality service for this pet (keep in mind you will have other dogs coming in at the same time to work on) and management will sometimes force you to take the dog because it’s “good sales” and then you’ll be behind for the rest of your day.

The company pushes for more and more from the bottom level employees without better pay. I worked there before the restructuring and; not much can make me cry, but working here sure did, even back then. I can’t imagine how anxiety inducing it must be to work there now. Animal welfare is a complete non-concern. The only thing that’s pushed is sell, sell, sell. It’s borderline dystopian. Bad management seems to be a common issue, not only from my experience, but many others’ as well. I worked until I was an exhausted sweaty mess to make sure everything in pet care or, when I groomed, the salon, was cleaned to perfection as expected of me (and I reiterate: “me,” because these standards were not expected of my co-workers, just me) and overall felt very unseen. The only times I did feel “seen,” was when mistakes were made. Work was treated like boot camp. A co-worker that was subtley targeting/bullying me, and even started rumors accusing me of racist remarks(!!!), was promoted and anything I reported was downplayed because they were friends with the assistant manager. Working here was an overall traumatizing experience.
