Extremely poor compensation (my salary at my next job was double what it was at PA) and virtually no opportunities for advancement. Poor leadership (pay is so poor that the school cannot attract good people). Huge technical debt. Out-of-date professional practices (annual reviews and interview processes, project and team management, etc.) Terrible department morale. A culture in which staff are treated very differently (and with much less consideration) than faculty. A feckless HR department. Performative rather than genuine emphasis on diversity and inclusion.
