Toxic environment - be prepared to be talked down to and disrespected; Treating contractors like employees but paying/engaging them like contractors; Poor management skills - zero kindness and lack of human-centrism. Management can’t take any criticism or be challenged - you will be quickly reminded of your place.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts. Relating to your comments on how we employ our team; as a startup, we’re growing and continuously exploring our hiring capabilities. Currently we engage team members from all over the world using a variety of contractual models, as we want to be able hire the best people regardless of their geographic location. We’ve found this helps us to be as inclusive as possible when it comes to hiring great talent; whether they can work full-time or on a more flexible basis, whether they are based in a country where we can offer employment, or in a country where we cannot offer this option yet. While we value the benefits and flexibility of being a fully remote team, we put a lot of effort into creating an environment where meaningful relationships between team members can develop. We strive to ensure our team feels empowered, and enabled, to shape the organisation alongside the founders. One example of how we do this is by inviting all team members to meet every three months somewhere nice in Europe. We use these opportunities to realign on our goals and organisational approach, and create space for social connections; we find a certain collaborative magic can only happen in-person. We apologise and truly regret to hear that you felt disrespected. We put a lot of emphasis on constructive communication amongst the team; we practise a strong feedback culture with regular developmental feedback sessions as well as an internal coaching program; we emphasise our values of transparency and collaboration, and have a meritocratic work culture. Creating an environment where team members are encouraged to take risks, and where we jointly learn from our mistakes, is key to our organisation. We are very sorry if we did not live up to our aspirations in our interaction with you.

Working on foundational AI technology, not just some OpenAI wrapper, and if we're successful the upside is huge, The team is incredibly smart in their fields, sometimes I feel like I'm working at Bell Labs in the 60s or something with the way I'm surrounded by expert researchers. Inspiring retreats in beautiful locations in Europe every three months.

You need to really be comfortable working remotely and async, the team works in a tool called Quire which is task oriented and requires you to keep track of things in a written way. You don't really have a manager monitoring you to make sure you're working on the right things, so you need to be pretty self-driven and oriented around getting results on your own. The company is small and the organisation is flat, so there aren't a lot of opportunities to become a middle manager (though, as a startup, there are plenty of opportunities to just grab some important work and do it outside of your official role). These aren't really positives or negatives per se, but different people might fit well in this or other kinds of companies so wanted to mention.
