Pay is low for any of the people involved in the actual production, yet those are the people working more hours trying to catch up as the jobs pile up. The people working client side only make it harder for production, because they don't have enough print-related knowledge (and they don't ask those that do) therefore they promise their clients unrealistic deadlines and accept incorrect assets. Production is then left to "figure it out", taking unnecessary time to find workarounds for things client should be providing correctly from the get go.
