I absolutely love this company. The main categories of why it's great are people, leadership, growth/the work, and culture. The people here at Propeller are some of the coolest, smartest, most interesting people I've ever known...yet they're all so humble. They do the amazing things, like lead huge vision sessions for big companies, make their own (beautiful) dining tables or completely renovate their bathrooms, create business-changing apps, sing professionally, find hundreds of thousands of budget dollars for their clients, and run the Boston Marathon or travel the globe, and all of this makes them unique, genuine, and able to draw connections and be smarter in business. The leadership is incredible. They really do care about the people (this is so easy but so rarely done!) and they work hard to partner people with client engagements they'll like and be successful in. I get helpful, thoughtful feedback at performance reviews and informally throughout the year. They are genuine, happy, and impressively smart. I think I'm better just having worked for them. They also are among the most ethical people I know. I agree with the other review: they do what they say and say what they do, even when they think nobody is looking. Consulting is a strange place to grow your career if you're not familiar with it, especially in a small firm. We all have the same title so the outward-facing result looks like we're not advancing the typical way our friends in giant companies do because they change titles every couple years. But here, growth isn't judged by--nor attained through--titles, it's in the real work. You get more challenges, you're invited to try new things, stretch, and grow. For me, it's awesome to feel like I'm not trapped in the world of stagnating mentally even as I watch my title "grow." The work we do is interesting and always presents a puzzle or challenge that smart people love to unpack, roll up their sleeves with, and dig into. The culture is all around us, in big and little things. They don't just check the boxes of culture or benefits; it's genuine. The overarching rule at Propeller is "use good judgement" because they trust us to make good decisions. Though the unlimited PTO has a MINIMUM requirement of four and a half weeks off to keep us driven people from driving ourselves into the ground. You feel the culture in the way people are truly happy to see each other when we get together. It's the connectedness, the trust, the transparency. It's knowing the business of my company, including finances, and feeling like each of us is an important contributor. You can put in a lot with this company and they give you a lot in return. And it's things like the Propeller Olympics with Jillian's Jungle Juice (haha), ninja training, incredible offsites, and other gatherings. Ok, yes, benefits are pretty swell, too. Matching 401k, unlimited PTO, great healthcare and FSA, maternity and paternity leave (I love working for a company where dads are valued), gym memberships, cell phones paid, annual TriMet passes, and possible unpaid leave are all amazing. We aim for 40-45 hour work weeks all the time, manage our own schedules, get training, and have snacks and all sorts of delicious beverages available all the time. The office buildout was done with sustainability in mind and looks amazing. But it's the people, leadership, growth/work, and culture that really sets this company apart.
