What drives any great business is its people; sure RTGS.global is a pioneering tech company looking to radically disrupt the market, but it’s who you’re doing it with on the daily that really makes working here exciting and unique. You’re surrounded by people that are at the top of their game; I’m constantly wowed at the calibre of people around me. The environment is super welcoming, collaborative and access to colleagues is easy; everyone is very giving of their time and helpful. Nobody takes themselves too seriously, there’s no egos, and so you have a lot of fun along the way.

Working in a fintech start-up is not for the feint hearted. The market response to our solution has been phenomenal but change in financial services for the most part is at snail’s pace; and so, garnering real traction is very hard to accomplish. There is rightly a lot of pressure to deliver quick results, and so we’ve needed to break it down into smaller incremental wins. Getting to those wins involves a lot of ups and a lot of downs, and weathering that journey requires boundless flexibility, adaptability and energy, and bluntly that can be exhausting at times!

Being a fully remote business, the flexibility and work life balance is a massive plus as a parent. The technical problems we have to solve are really interesting and challenging. The platform we are developing is on a global scale so that provides some additional complexity. The engineering team I am working with is one of the best I've worked with and everyone is willing to help. In addition, I believe there is trust in the department from the rest of the business and there's a reasonable level of autonomy to find solutions to problems.

The business is still very much in a start-up phase and with that comes the nature of many changes and pivots over the past few years. Although there has been traction in the business development space it is demoralising to build software for several years that isn't being used by paying customers. It's an emotional rollercoaster when there is some good news shared that eventually results in no further development or becomes a bit flat because of the slow rate of change in the finance industry.
