Working at Raising Canes has been a challenging experience for myself and my family, as a recent change in the work schedule has placed a significant burden on both my family and personal life. Prior to this change, the job had been going well, but now it feels as though there are no days off, leaving myself feeling completely exhausted. Simple tasks like scheduling doctor or dentist appointments have become nearly impossible, I even had to miss important school activities for my children, which has led to feelings of guilt and inadequacy as a parent. However, I feel trapped in this situation, as the job is necessary to provide a roof over my family's head. Raising Canes is described as a highly controlling environment, where employees are expected to dedicate their entire lives to running the restaurant, with no room for outside commitments or interests. There is a pervasive culture of fear, where workers know that even a momentary lapse in focus could result in immediate termination. As someone who has worked in the restaurant industry their whole life, I have never before experienced this level of rigid control and lack of work-life balance. If it were not for the need to support my family, I would have left this job long ago, as the demands have become simply too much to bear.
