Most of the people here are collaborative and fun to work with, others can be backstabbers or simply jerks who just want to appeal to the ceo at your expense. The break area has a few game consoles but nobody really uses them. Ping pong and pool tables are the best thing to do here on your breaks if you like it. Some snacks are available but they go fast and free coffee. That’s literally it.

Svantaggi

So this company isnt really a company, think of it more like a dictatorship being ran by an overbearing ceo with a Napoleon complex. This guy man, makes it very hard to work here and keep a smile. The ceo, george or papa, is a very my way or the highway kinda person with an extremely stubborn attitude and is not afraid to throw his rank at people in an attempt to intimidate them and get what he wants. Ive seen this with a past female manager as he told her verbatim “im the ceo, you work for me. If i say roll around the floor naked your going to do it because im the boss.” She got fired shortly after refusing to be intimidated and put her head down like the rest of the employees. This has been a common theme for our company. If george likes you, promotion is always on the table regardless of how much work you do or how well you do it. Get on his bad side and you will quickly find yourself on the outside looking in with no room for growth. There are days george is not at the office in person, few and far between but the atmosphere changes completely. People are more talkative and laid back when they feel like they’re not working under a microscope. I say this because papa g has glass doors to his office and will frequently watch his workers to ensure nobody deviates from his strict expectations. We are not allowed to use headphones or even text at our desk regardless if we are working alone or if work is slow for the day. Multiple websites are blocked on the wifi (ex. Reddit) and leaving early or taking excused absences are very frowned upon. Ive seen multiple co workers get into trouble for not coming to work because of a family emergency and being told “business is business” before getting a write up when they come back. The office is already understaffed as it is because of the absurd turnover rate and george is now threatening to require us to turn in our phones before starting our shift. Good luck with that. We all seem very replaceable and undervalued as workers, we even get paid well below industry standard for the work we do. $15/hr starting then $17/hr after 3months. If you get promoted to on site it becomes $20/hr then your commute changes from los alamitos to manhattan beach or hollywood. Most employees decline this offer due to the commute and that decision is often not met with any sympathy or understanding. Some employees are told to take the so called “promotion” or possibly wnd up being fired. There are a lot of talented people working here but that often goes very unnoticed and they soon quit due to reasons ive mentioned above. Upon being hired we have no training. We are told “read the company wiki” and are expecting to understand how management wants work to be handled based on that out dated webpage. At some (pods) or workstations it feels like the blind leading the blind and this “paired programming” system does not work. Someone always does most of the work while the others just sit there puzzled, but george swears this system works. You will get in trouble if you attempt to use a second laptop in a pod workstation and george sees you. Papa G is always watching. Then just when you grasp what is going on and how things work you get swapped to a new pod station and start learning all over again. Employee morale is always low unless you just got promoted or are an unknowing new hire. The turnover rate is 3.6 quit per month ive kept track. Take from this what you will or read other reviews if this seems too harsh, but im just being honest.

Alright here’s the truth. Yes this is a good place to learn, no it’s probably not going to benefit 80% of you in today’s job market. Most of these tasks that people get started here with for <5 years are extremely menial and will probably get replaced by AI in the next few years. I’ve been mulling this decision of posting this over for past few weeks but I think explaining this somewhere is the right thing to do: we’re all working on automation on the backend to cut costs and remove the need for sqaas. Hell, even most embedded positions are getting removed in the next couple years so a few of our QA Architects, Principals and a couple POCs can get rewarded for the extra work in their automation by taking over the contracts. It sucks to say but this company has always cared about protecting the individuals who’s been here since the beginning and will do anything to put us first. Even if this means screwing over recent grads or young kids to not have to cut our own salaries. It’s a bit sad to see how oftentimes my colleagues who’s been here for about a decade as well have weeks on end where they do almost nothing related to the tasks from their assigned business partners, but yet profit off of the hard work done by sqaas (of course when I say hard I usually mean easy just a lot of tasks). That part makes me the most guilty

I’ll give an honest break down the pay for those who are still interested: You start at ~33,000 After a year you’ll be at ~36,000 After two years you’ll be at ~40,000 If you do get embedded you’ll be at ~44,000 From there you’ll probably be stuck at that for a while, I’ve seen people who’s been here for 5 years and barely broke 55,000. However if (very unlikely I don’t see this happening at all) you become Principal, congratulations you’re finally an employee we care about - then you’ll be at ~80,000 Honest truth is only the VPs make high 6 figures. Every year Jeremiah would make presentations about the cost-benefit of sqaas and get raise after raise while at the same time laying people off when things get a bit rocky. Still think they/we care? But in this economy, even if you won’t take the 33,000, there’s always going to be another sucker who would. After all, sqaas is easy menial labor
