Vantaggi
- The platform, materials and pay are good - English speakers from outside North America are welcome - Efficient hiring process - Teachers who fulfil whatever enigmatic criteria needed to get assigned their preferred hours seem to be satisfied and passionate about their work.
Svantaggi
- Uncertain and precarious hours. I got the job but wasn't able to take up teaching immediately due to some personal reasons - no problem I thought; the company emphasises their flexibility and there are no minimum hours, so I can just leave my time slots closed until the problem is resolved. In reality it now appears to be very hard for me to get regular classes, even opening my availability up to 14 weeks in advance. I appreciate that some algorithm might have decided I hadn't been quite quick enough to start and so decided not to allot me classes, but there is also a lot of feedback on the teacher's group from other teachers (including formerly established ones) who have suddenly found it hard to get hours even though, to the best of their knowledge, they are doing everything they are supposed to. The point is that the processes really don't feel transparent. This must be very demoralising for teachers who have a good record and who try their hardest - Very unforgiving penalties for issues which could be outside the teacher's control - Incentive pay has been cut recently
