Vantaggi
- Seeing the 'behind the scenes' process of galleries, ware-houses, creative spaces and the lead up to exhibition is very exciting and eye-opening, particularly within the art industry. - My direct colleagues were lovely, hardworking and like-minded people who supported each other.
Svantaggi
- Unfortunately, staff considered by senior managers as 'less important' were massively underpaid for all their hard work. Often working over time/called in early; contacted out-of-hours about work related issues; made to do an abundance of extremely physical and exhausting work (often not outlined within the job description) within an unrealistic timeframe, then criticized if the job wasn't completed or to a high enough standard. - As mentioned, senior staff could be extremely critical and demeaning to others. I was, personally, often made to feel silly, often ignored and that I was constantly in the way. When senior managers/leadership would enter the building or offices, there would be an immediate shift in atmosphere where staff would be walking on egg-shells around them, even fetching food/beverages to keep them appeased. - Due to the quick change-over of staff through various redundancies/firing, there was always a worry that your job wasn't secure and with one mistake, you could be made jobless.
