Vantaggi
- Physicians I work with are excellent and I have learned so much about the clinical thought process. - Other scribes are pretty good-natured and many are also pre-health.
Svantaggi
-The compensation and hours are ridiculous. Pay is minimum wage (despite the facility paying Scribe America $20/hr). Company either avoids offering full-time hours or discourages you from clocking the full-time hours you work. As a result, it is practically impossible to qualify for benefits. - Be prepared to routinely work 9+ hours without breaks or lunch. - Ancillary staff is typically very rude to scribes. I think this comes down to poor communication between Scribe America and contracted facilities about what scribes actually do. - Training was 25+ hours of virtual classes held at all random times of day and night. Very little of this training is pertinent to what you actually do in the clinic. EMR training is also essentially nothing. Be prepared to start from scratch at your first day on the job. - Being an excellent scribe doesn't really open doors for other competitive job opportunities, since the work isn't truly clinical in nature. There's also no true upward mobility within the company, so you're stuck in terms of earning potential.
