The current culture is toxic. Under the current financial and customer circumstances, it is appears difficult for the most senior of management to calmly stay the course with a loaded gun at their heads and the trickle down effect of each tier holding guns to the heads of those who work for them. Managers demeaning their staff is a great part of this raw situation. The revolving door of managers starts in the stores and go right up to the field management teams. As a result, the store and company culture has become an unattainable target. With each manager change come a new direction, new directives, new initiatives and the continued culture of turmoil. It's one thing to manage change; it is another thing to manage change on all levels that occurs on grand scales several times a quarter. You can't make a good impression on your direct report when they are moved or more likely replaced several times a year. In my two years as a Sears GM, I endured 5 different district managers and 3 different regional managers.

We occasionally faced difficult customer interactions, changing sales expectations, and the need to balance multiple responsibilities simultaneously. Additionally, retail schedules often required evening, weekend, and holiday shifts, which could affect our work-life balance.
