Vantaggi
The guys I work with are great. We have full benefits that cost me about 300 a month. I like the job, its pretty easy and every day is something different. Its fun putting up solar panels. Solar city seems like a great company that wants to do the right thing for everybody, employees included.
Svantaggi
When I was hired I was told that I would have weekends off (we don't, even though we don't have the work to rate working them and home owners don't want us there on weekends), that promotions would come rapidly(I haven't seen anyone promoted yet), Panel pay was supposed to be a higher number(Panel Pay 2.0 is lower than what I was originally promised), and that we would be given all this free stuff(tools, which I had to buy, Tshirts, sweater, Solarcity gear), and be provided vans to get to jobs. Since working here I have not seen anyone promoted, they make us work weekends even though we were told we would have them off, we never make panel pay even though were on a top crew. (panel pay is too low to beat hourly, and jobs are too small or they add maintenance to make sure we don't get it). The only way to make Panel pay is to be a lead installer and be given big jobs daily. THEY REMOVED THE VANS FROM THE WAREHOUSE to save money on fleet costs, and now expect installers to drive their personal cars with no gas or mileage reimbursement (sometimes to jobs over an hour away!!) We consistently have the police called on us by neighbors for parking on streets early in the morning for jobs. Its very unprofessional to have 6 POVs parked in front of the homeowners house, and since losing a van the jobs take much longer to complete due to lack of tools. Which was also suggested by managers, that we buy better tools than what the office provides.
