Co-workers were always friendly and I generally got along with everyone I worked with, 98% of the customers were good people and created some bonds with certain customers, the feeling that you have ownership over your own work and you don't have anyone looking over your shoulder at how you do your job.

Lots of cons unfortunately. This company is a stepping stone to bigger and better things in the future. The company is not in touch with its employees and treats its employees like servants. The employees are paid very little when you look at the amount of work they are asked to do. This company is very cheap and it might be retail thing more than a company thing but Speedway is very cheap when it comes to paying their employees for the work they do. Cashiers are expected to sell Speedy Rewards, cookies, candy, charity, 2 for specials on hot food programs or 2 for specials on various merchanidse. They are asked to do a million things at once with little to no support. The stores do not have enough people on staff to account for all of the tasks that need to be done on each shift. Also, shift leaders, who are asked to take on responsibilities that assistant managers and managers take on yet they do not get paid enough for their contributions, which is a shame. They basically get paid what a cashier is "supposed" to get paid, yet they are asked to be another assistant manager (responsible for administrative related tasks, held accountable for the store's monthly goals and metrics just as a manager would be, held accountable for the monthly inspections that determine bonuses each month). Don't get me wrong, there were good times at Speedway, but there are a lot of frustrated employees within this company and ultimately, the company might be thriving but they have lost a lot of quality employees over the months and years b/c of the way they alienate and make their employees feel. They do not provide discounts on anything (gas, food, drinks, etc...), they have gone so far as to cancel Christmas/holiday parties b/c they are trying to save money. The supposed #1 convenience store chain in the country canceling holiday parties for the sake of saving money? It's very discouraging if you are an employee with this company. On top of that, there are requirements in many stores for management to work overnight shifts, there is a lot of inconsistency with scheduling, and management is expected to bend their backs and give up their personal lives to be a good soldier for the company. Unlike other retail stores, since Speedways are open 24/7, this puts management in a big bind and unfortunately, there are people suffering and toiling through.
