As one of the largest and most prestigious medical device companies in the world, having a Stryker position on your resume is a beacon for companies seeking competent talent. Stryker also opens the door to anyone trying to enter the medical industry, so long as they possess the fundamental skills of a position.

Salaries are low-balled and at the bottom of industry standards. They have don’t have an employee development plan in place. Managers conduct an annual performance review, and make vague suggestions for improvement beyond current position. Very few opportunities for upward movement which creates a company culture that’s founded on self-preservation, even if means stepping on others to gain notoriety. Some divisions of Stryker also appear to possess a cult-like culture, where activities that do not support or directly influence project or company objectives are passively perceived in a negative light. Personal endeavors or issues are met with a face of initial concern, but are handled with a lack of empathy and a firm reminder of duties as an employee. Very friendly dispositions, but you can never be certain of actual intentions making it a very stressful environment to work in at times.

Sports Medicine has unfortunately changed from a dynamic and collaborative group to one being led by toxic leadership. Rather than working together and trusting team members, they now have an in group and out group. If you’re in the in group, you can say anything you want without being questioned and be automatically trusted even when your track record says otherwise. If you’re in the out group and your message doesn’t align with what the leadership wants to hear, then you are automatically wrong and not to be trusted.
