Uhh..... Free bagels? That's it. Well, unless you like to keep your head down, never offer any process improvement recommendations and really just want to be told what to do, how to do it, and when to do it then this is your place!
Svantaggi
Complete lack of diversity. Managers find their own employees to fill the role and usually it's a friend or family and HR is not involved. They are a 9am - 6pm company. Which literally means regardless of your role you are expected to be in by 9:00 and stay until 6:00 and managers walk around checking to see who is there. Even if I come in at 7:30 a.m. because I like to start early and avoid traffic I still get a knock if I'm not in my seat until 6:00. If you are in the parking lot at 8:30 a.m. it's completely empty. It's the weirdest thing I've ever experienced in silicon valley as a salaried employee. Oh yeah, I was asked many times to apply my expertise but in reality I was supposed to do it my manager's way even though my manager wouldn't tell me what that was like. So I would guess, return a result and it would get rejected. I would ask what they wanted and was told, "You are the expert" But if I dare respond, "if I'm the expert then please accept my recommendation" Oh no no no.... Because you're every move is so micromanaged, your manager has to prove they are the smartest person on the team and therefore everything must be done their way regardless of their lack of expertise in that area. And raise your concerns with HR? That's laughable. Most of the minions in HR are looking to get out themselves. I actually had one good experience with one senior level person in HR a few years ago. My job was on the line and this person helped navigate the waters and work with the legal team and my manager. He was actually empathetic and very interested in helping. Of course he was let go because he actually showed initiative. Oh and don't forget that if you and your team have to get approval for something from the CEO (by the way everything requires approval from the CEO), then you have to stand in line outside his office and when you enter you have to bow and wait to be spoken to and regardless of the decision you have to bow and exit. I know for a fact many of the executive level are related but it's quite likely they all are in some way shape or form. In all honesty it's the weirdest damn thing ever.
