Vantaggi

This company has a great mission along with some decent perks. Benefits include snacks and drinks in the kitchen, a 401k plan, and great medical insurance coverage. A stipend for lunch is also provided daily. Uber rides are also offered if you work later in the evening. Overall, there's always work that needs to be done. The employees here are incredibly smart and truly passionate about finding a solution to provide personalized cancer treatment options to patients.

Svantaggi

In terms of the JDA position, unless you intend to pursue a career in data analytics, there are no skills to be gained. You'll be isolated from other departments. You're also expected to work as long as it takes to accomplish goals. Tempus prides itself on being able to accomplish the impossible, and this means working long hours, well past 40 hours per week (50-60 hours). There are no true transferable career skills, as you are not utilizing any form of coding skills with this analyst position. You will be reading through thousands of patient files daily on a computer, so be sure you're accustomed to reading on a computer screen for long periods of time. Management is very disorganized and inexperienced. Most of its members do not come from positions requiring true management skills. They are overshadowed by what leadership demands of them, and have no power to vouch for you if you're targeted for inadequate performance. Expect inconsistent task instructions, followed by reprimands for rules that didn't apply to the analyst role the previous week. The JDAs are treated as though they are stereotypical millennials, often described as 'lazy' and 'entitled'. They are perceived in a very negative light by a large majority of the company, and this is due to their age demographic (primarily recent college graduates). They're actually pretty nice people who work their hardest to achieve team goals, so it was quite sad witnessing the blatant discrimination that’s imposed by senior management. Overall, a combination of discrimination and a lack of true cameradie makes this position a very undesirable one. Only apply for this position if you intend to go back to school in a short period of time, or have intentions to advance your career goal as a data analyst. Just be aware that you will have to utilize your own technical skill if you want to retain any career value from this position. If you want to try to achieve a long term commitment with this company through the JDA position, aim for achieving a promotion as a Data Analyst.

Vantaggi

As mentioned work is great since it is cancer research and my coworkers are amazing. Immediate leadership managers and Sr. managers are good as well but somewhat unorganised. Work life balance is good also and health insurance as long as you get BCBS PPO with copay otherwise you're screwed paying off deductible.

Svantaggi

Pay is below industry average, and there is essentially no room to negotiate a better raise. Employees are actively discouraged from discussing compensation, and whatever leadership decides is final, there are no exceptions. If you try to escalate concerns or request a conversation with senior leadership, such as a senior director or VP, you’ll quickly find yourself getting the runaround. Leadership prefers to hide behind layers of management rather than engage directly. There is also no clear or transparent path for career advancement. Opportunities technically exist, but they are extremely limited. You can do everything right, receive a top rating of 5 on your annual performance review, and still not be promoted to manager or see any meaningful improvement in compensation. To make matters worse, the billionaire CEO and founder has said things like, “Don’t worry about pay because we’re curing cancer.” Statements like that feel incredibly out of touch when employees are earning $50k–$60k a year and receiving annual raises of only about $2,000. On top of that, equity is almost impossible to obtain. You have to fight for even the possibility of it, because stock or equity compensation is reserved almost exclusively for the C-suite and directors, with virtually nothing available for employees below that level.
