Vantaggi

The peers and colleagues not in upper management at The Shipping Store are truly the highlight of working here. The team is filled with supportive, talented, and collaborative individuals who make day-to-day tasks enjoyable and manageable. It’s a great environment for building relationships and learning from others at your level.

Svantaggi

Unfortunately, the positives largely stop with the peers. Upper management struggles with poor communication amongst themselves, creating confusion and inefficiencies across the company. Growth opportunities are limited, and the company often feels like it’s in constant “fight or flight” mode. The CEO, while well-intentioned, doesn’t have an accurate understanding of the company culture because they rely heavily on upper management to communicate what’s happening on the ground. However, many in upper management lack the necessary experience to provide accurate feedback or take decisive action themselves. Work-life balance and vacation policies are below average compared to modern companies, and while pay is fair for entry-level or associate roles, those who take on additional responsibilities rarely see a proportional increase in compensation unless heavily favored. This disconnect, combined with a lack of financial transparency and evident financial struggles, creates a challenging environment for those looking for long-term growth. Advice to Future Employees: If you’re considering joining, view this as a stepping stone rather than a long-term opportunity unless upper management undergoes significant reorganization. Don’t expect clear communication, strong leadership, or substantial growth.
