There are many places where diverse perspectives are valued: sadly, this is not one of them. Where do I start, the admin team is the problem here. The 'executive director' is so disconnected from TRL, unless you count doing presentations all day with random companies. Don't get me wrong, this could be a good thing if they were contributing to growth, but they're not. It's the inexperienced deputy director who runs the library, micro managing the public service managers and branch managers. The focus is on disciplining anyone with an opinion that is different from the admin team. LOL- one of the things that staff are assessed on is whether or not they try to make a case for a change or have an opinion that differs from the deputy and the public service managers. Creativity is crushed. Innovativeness discouraged. The admin has zero emotional intelligence and don't know how to talk to staff. They consistently kill passion and creativity. If you do not fit in their mold you're ostracized, and disciplined over petty things until you leave. I too remember when I was there during 2020, when the all white team who for years forbid staff to acknowledge discrimination, put out an anti racist statement. I remembered only too well when I was reprimanded a year or so earlier because of a back lives matter post. TRL makes decided to wake up to realities of their community and made a move that was purely perfomative. This library system is steeped in racism, passive aggressive and micro aggression. I know because I faced it. Though I held on because of the convenience to home, I eventually had to leave to maintain my dignity and to grow as the professional I am.
