There are wonderful Directors, Managers and Supervisors at TxDot, however there are evil and crooked Managers as well. Before I transferred from a wonderful position to the Accounting Dept., I should have thoroughly checked out how other employees were treated by the new manager, Michelle Cravotta. If only I had, I would have known that she had terminated very good employees for refusing to turn their heads and keep quiet about illegal goings on under her umbrella. She has destroyed many livelihoods who could have retired in a few years. My advice is to check backgrounds and get information from other employees before applying or transferring to another position.

I worked for great Directors from 1999 - 2011, however I transferred to Accounting in 2011 only to have a chance for pay scale advancement. Unfortunately, I walked into a lion's den. Other accountants were falsifying time sheets and the new manager instructed me to turn my head and look the other way. I refused due to my integrity and honesty and the new manager discharged me stating that i did not fulfill her expectations. Ironically, all of my job performances from 1999 though 2014 were superior. TxDot is an at will agency and unfortunately there are crooked managers who will get rid of excellent employees to save face and to keep from being found out.

Good health insurance, vacation and sick leave! No mandatory overtime

Hired remote before Covid and this agency ended all telework even though other state agencies kept it! Doing the work of 3 people but pay for 1 …building outdated (except for HQ in Austin), lack of modern software but PeopleSoft gets the job done, High mandatory pension deductions right at 9.5% big hit to paycheck! Getting paid once a month big adjustment. Ending telework really limits their talent pool around the state of Texas now must live in Austin if you want access to the majority of good jobs.
