Job security. It is hard for the Navy to get rid of you. You can do the bare minimum and be babied the whole way through your career and still get paid the same as the next guy. You will get to do and see things that so few people will ever see or experience.

The Navy bureaucracy is staggeringly large. The ability to execute simple tasks is hampered by outrageous administration. It is hard to believe this organization can even function under its own stupidity. I am leaving the service soon as is many talented Officers. It is surprising how many of the average to below average Officers want to stay in (See Pros section above). The culture is completely Christian heterosexual male dominated and anyone who questions it's power structure is ridiculed. The Christian God is still referred to in everyday conversation as part of our work. "Doing God's work".
