Vantaggi
They pay very well, and life work balance is amazing.
Svantaggi
USAA is not ready for design. They are a huge company that is not ready to change antiquated processes or creatively problem solve. Unfortunately they routinely higher the best of the best designers in our industry and then once hired give them little to no work to do. The work they will provide is EXTREMELY prescriptive; I had projects where my job was to add a button to a page and not ask questions about it. Meanwhile, in my interview the work I showed was extremely product strategy based. Having 6+ years experience and being very passionate about what I do - I could not understand why USAA hired me to add buttons to pages. If this were a unique case, however, I would not be writing a review. I know a good handful of people that have the same story with USAA, and I have met recruiters that tell me they have heard the same thing from almost all the USAA design candidates that they interview. However, if your work is mostly a paycheck and you if you are okay with the situation I described above, USAA could be a place for you. There are a lot worse things a company can do than overpay and under work you. I usually do not write reviews, but after hearing from a number of people this also happened to - I feel that I would be doing the design community a disservice by not posting a review.
