Where to begin with this trash can fire of an organization? UP exists for one purpose: to fund the AFL-CIO by selling union members "financial services products" (ie debt) like credit cards and mortgages. The managers come in three varieties: inept, toxic or inept and toxic. Micromanagement is the order of the day -- staff are often treated without any respect, management is abusive or hostile, new staff are hazed and run through the proverbial ringer because once they get through their probationary period, they're under the union contract and can't be fired. Hours are closely monitored and management nickels and dimes on leave. Although this is a union organization, management greatly resents the union. People have been hired for senior roles from within the labor movement, but don't have any experience working in affinity marketing, making problems worse. Morale is terrible.

Great benefits including 12 vacation days per year plus paid holidays, 11 sick days per year, up to 3% matching on 401k, pension opt-in after 3 years, weekly telework day after 1 year (you get to pick your day), education reimbursement, FSA card for doc visits/prescriptions, moderate salaries, plus organizational bonuses based on program performance (usually bonus is about $1,000, which is quite low for the area). Diverse team with a variety of employees - some who have been around a year or less and some who have been here 15+ years. New management is bringing the organization to a new level and treating employees better and bringing up morale. There is an organizational focus on transparency, accountability, and mutual respect. All staff except management are union members (OPEIU Local 2) so that comes with a lot of benefits itself. Relatively laid back environment and you get to pick between 8-4, 9-5, or 10-6 work shifts (also the work week is only 35 hours per week). Occasional paid lunches, staff birthday parties, and a few annual staff events/parties.

Svantaggi

The salaries could be higher, they are below average for the DC area (but above average nationally). There is a SIX MONTH probationary period which is pretty harsh because employees are not allowed to use vacation or sick time at all during this period. Currently the organization does not give out cost of living raises each year, so after several years you might have to find a new job if you aren't lucky enough to get a performance-based raise or promotion.
