If you are "well liked" by Executives, they offer above competitive compensation for Consultants and Managers. You don't have to be competent to be promoted. In fact, the less competent, the more likely you are to be given a management position. They willingly spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on projects they cannot implement. As a Consultant for this company, if you are "well liked" by Executive Management, you can earn $25K a month, working from home, with literally no accountability. If you have little to no leadership skills, you are guaranteed to be "fast tracked" to senior management positions. If your goal is to earn a six-figure income, never be held accountable for project failures under your leadership, have no voice, and no expectations of excellence, then Universal American in the company you want to work for.

UA is a company who's focus is more about the profits to shareholders, than the elderly population they serve. Plan designs consistently offer fewer benefits, have higher premiums and co-payments than any other company that offers by Medicare Advantage. UA has failed to deliver on any promises made to providers and members over the past five years. Outside of Houston, they have never successfully implemented collaborative partnerships Executive leaders turn a blind eye to incompetency. Feel threatened by anyone who is a "visionary". There is no accountability for process failures and no desire to "do the right thing", for employees (unless your in one of the clicks), sales agents, providers, health systems or their members.

The division of Universal American I worked for doesn't exist anymore. It was a great place to work, but its a moot point, as I am only writing this review because Glassdoor is forcing me to so that I can use the system in general.

I work with a nice group of people who work hard. Flexible work schedule, ability to work from home as needed, generous paid time off. Very grateful for the talented people who care and are willing to help.

Been here over 4 years and have had as many bosses. Company is constantly buying and selling companies, leaving you to wonder if you'll still have your job tomorrow. When people are laid off or leave (and good people are constantly fleeing this company), they do not replace them, just pile the work on the next level down. Ultimately, you end up with people who have no clue what they're doing because they're not qualified or trained for the job they've suddenly been dumped with. I was one of them. It took me months to figure out what I was doing and who the helpful players were when I was thrust into a completely new line of business with absolutely no guidance. There is a serious lack of communication -- leadership does not communicate what's going on so employees are living in constant fear that their days are numbered. And speaking of numbers, that's all we are. We are not people with families or financial responsibilities. We are that one or two salaries they want to eliminate so that the Board can make their bottom line, regardless of how loyal you've been or vital your role.
