flexible schedule, good pay, no cuts of pay taken by company

not a lot of hours

This is a great company. Tutors have lots of flexibility and fair pay because they actually get make their own schedules (in coordination with their students obviously) and set their own rates-- this is how independent contractors are supposed to be treated, but not how many other tutoring companies actually operate. My students also tell me that the rates they pay are affordable and the flexibility makes it even more so (we charge and they pay by the hour as we do sessions instead of big, expensive up front packages). This makes the company a great fit for tutors with busy lives and students who either don't need or can't afford a bunch of sessions up front. I really like that this model makes private tutoring more accessible to a wider range of people. The management is also a huge pro. It is a small organization, so my students and I consistently talk to the same person (possibly the owner?). He does a great job matching students with tutors, he's very responsive, helpful, and fair, and he clearly cares about the ongoing relationships he builds with the students (one of mine has worked with him for years). Another small but important pro- the systems they have for things like logging hours are easy to use and reliable. No headaches.

This is a perfect fit for me as a side gig to my regular full time office job. That said, I could imagine that if you wanted tutoring to be your full time job, the flexibility would make it difficult. (probably true of any IC tutoring company) Also, like any teaching job (including public schools, honestly), you don't get paid for time spent prepping lessons.
