Vantaggi
At this point I really can't even list any pros except perhaps that they're so desperate for workers you could get hired on while lying through your teeth about experience.
Svantaggi
They can barely afford to pay their employees and insist on handing out paper checks that they refuse to let you cash at their bank. During onboarding I was told payday was Friday, and by my third week I was told to not deposit my check until Monday. I barely had a chance to get onboard before a paycheck bounced, and after that I simply couldn't trust payroll.
On top of that, the software development department has been a revolving door for years. The company is highly disorganized and what little documentation exists is hidden somewhere in a maze of barely-labelled filing cabinets. Management is woefully ignorant of the actual process of software development, to the extent that I have wasted hours explaining basic level software concepts, defending my work, and being forced to justify all of my predecessors' time and effort on my project instead of being productive.
Management fluctuates between overbearing and completely hands-off. They are inconsistent in setting objectives and will give unrelated, unnecessary, or even conflicting instructions. I was given free reign to develop for my project with no clear deadline for demo presentations until after several weeks, when I was suddenly told to have something to present by the next day.
