Vantaggi
The clients come first, and because the crew are also clients, we are also treated well. The fun work culture, inclusivity, and friendly employees make coming to work enjoyable. While not considered a "tech company," a huge portion of the employees are in the IT side, and they strive to uphold the same standards as tech companies. There is a culture of learning, where crew members promote innovation, teach each other new skills, and experimenting with new technologies. The compensation is also very competitive, especially if you consider the 401k match, generous PTO, and flexibility.
Svantaggi
There are no stakeholders other than the clients, so all company decisions are made with the clients in mind. This is generally a very good thing, since our investment fees are very low. This also means that we try to cut costs whenever possible, so higher salaries tend to be reserved for the most highly impactful of crew members. Work culture can also be highly dependent on which department or which team you're on, and some managers can have quite different expectations, even within the same department. There is also a tendency to be very, very cautious when making decisions that impact the client; again, generally this is good, but it does tend to sometimes stifle innovation. Another issue is the potential for work-life-imbalance. If there are deadlines, teams tend to overwork, trying to finish deliverables in time. This, compounded with on-call production support, and a culture to put in extra hours to in order to succeed, can cause a lot of stress.
