Vantaggi

It can be a great place depending on your manager. The work load varies depending on the shift/time of day. First shift is always busy but it dies down on second and third is dead but there is still a lot of prep work to do on third. Pay is ok for a retail job. Customers are fun to talk to, especially the regulars. I know a lot about my regulars and it makes them feel great when they come in ad are greeted by someone who knows them and their orders and their families.

Svantaggi

My current manager (young man) doesn't have a college degree and seems to hate his employees who are around his age but have degrees/higher education and seems to cut their hours. Hours can be cut with no explanation. I work part time and I find the managers get dumber and care less with each year that passes. Managers are not held accountable and blame the associates for the mistakes/ problems that occur. I guess they don't realize that as managers they are suppose to know what's going on and make sure everything is running smoothly. Impossible to get promoted. They hang it over your head and then try to make you do all the work like cycle counts and negative inventory and orders as part of your "training" to get you ready for the manager in training interviews. Work/ life balance is impossible to have especially if you want a family.

Vantaggi

(Depending on your manager) you can take the tasks at your own pace and do what feels best, based on what you see. The position I'm in allows headphone use if you're not visible to customers.

Svantaggi

Skeletal shifts are the norm, employee burnout is rampant and unaddressed. Manager turnover is very high at my store, which makes establishing consistency impossible. I get the impression that the conditions for employees vary greatly by store. That said, if you find yourself stuck at a rougher one, your options are to either take the toll to your physical and mental health, or to quit/transfer to a better store. I have personally experienced many legal violations at my place of employment. (keeping the store open and functioning when the workers don't have a bathroom [OSHA fixed that]) (and a few incidents where hours were not properly entered for employees, causing them to work without pay) I have worked here for 4 years without benefits, one year only missing the hour-cutoff for it by an average of 20 minutes. Consistent schedules are very uncommon for employees.
